Although water supply coverage has increased remarkably in Nepal, not much attention has been given to improve the water quality. Regular outbreak of water borne epidemics and high number of patients being admitted to hospitals indicates that only increasing the water supply coverage is not enough to improve the public health status. Realizing the need to improve water quality at household level, ENPHO (Environment and Public Health Organisation) promoted SODIS in 20 different communities of Nepal, living in rural and peri-urban areas. The project was successful in widely disseminating the knowledge on SODIS. More than 5000 households were trained on its application. During the project ENPHO successfully sought the cooperation with the government as well as international organizations such as UNICEF and WHO.
