Differences in the pore space (porosity and pore size distribution, tortuosity and connectivity) for semi-dense asphalt field samples, with distinct service lives have been analyzed by X-ray tomography. These results were compared with the volumetric properties, airflow resistivity and surface texture. The higher porosity had a very good correlation with lower pavement noise. The traffic had an effect on reducing the porosity in early service life. The densest part of the pavement was found just below the surface, at the depth of the maximum aggregate size. The clogging over time, supported by observations of dirt in the tomograms, reduced pore connectivity in the older pavements.
