This paper analyses the chemo-mechanical properties of M-S-H pastes produced according to two protocols. The first paste was produced by casting, while the second was produced by pressing. Both were cured in carbonated water in an attempt to accelerate the formation of M-S-H. In order to limit the need for MgO water, the powder used is a mixture of two powders of different fineness and reactivity. Characterisation by TGA, XRD, and EDS shows that the pressed paste contains a mixture of brucite and M-S-H after 3 months, while the cast paste consists solely of M-S-H after 6 months. The porosity measured by water saturation is reduced by almost half by pressing compared with casting (28% compared with 44%). As a result, the pressed paste shows higher mechanical properties measured by microindentation than the cast paste.
