Series of tests dedicated to Station-Blackout (SBO) accident scenarios have been recently performed at the PKL-III facility in the framework of the OECD/NEA PKL III Project. These investigations addresses current safety issues related to beyond design basis accident transients with significant core heat-up in connection with failure of safety systems. This work presents a detailed analysis using the best-estimate thermal-hydraulic code TRACE (v5.0 Patch4) of different SBO scenarios simulated at PKL-III where failures of high and low pressure safety injection systems together with SG feed water supply are considered thus calling for adequate accident management (AM) actions and timely implementation of alternative emergency cooling procedures to prevent core meltdown. The presented analysis evaluates the capability of the applied TRACE model of the PKL-III facility to correctly capture the sequence of events of different variants of the SBO scenario, namely the SBO tests H2.1, H2.2 Run1 and H2.2 Run2, including symmetric or asymmetric Secondary Side Depressurization (SDE), Primary Side Depressurization (PDE), accumulators (ACCs) injection, secondary side feeding with mobile pump and/or primary side ECC injection from single fuel pool cooling pump (FPCP). Special focus of this study is put on the prediction of the Core Exit Temperature (CET), which drives the execution of the most relevant AM actions. This work presents in particular the key improvements made to the TRACE model nodalization that helped improving the code predictions, including the modelling of dynamical heat losses, the nodalization of steam generators' heat exchanger tubes and of the accumulators. Moreover, further analysis of outstanding discrepancies between code predictions and test data for the CET behavior is presented, particularly in relation to the ACCs behavior and to nodalization aspects that affects the coolant distribution inside the primary circuit and the pressure vessel. Another relevant aspect of this work is to evaluate how well the TRACE simulations of the three different scenarios (H2.1, H2.2 Run1 and H2.2 Run2) qualitatively and quantitatively capture the trends and results exhibited by the actual experiments. For instance; How the number of SG considered for SDE affects the heat transfer from primary side; How the discharge capacity of the pressurizer relief valve affects the dynamics of the transient; How the initial pressure and the nitrogen in the ACC affects the grace time between ACCs injection and subsequent core heat up; How well alternative feeding modes of the secondary and/or primary side with mobile injection pumps affects core heat up and ensure long-term core cooling under stable and controlled boiling conditions.
