This work demonstrates the precision achieved with thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) detectors (TLDs and OSLDs) using a procedure that takes advantage of the capabilities of automated TL/OSL readers (lexsyg smart), for potential applications in medical dosimetry. The procedure makes use of the ⁹⁰Sr/⁹⁰Y beta source present in the reader to correct for sample-to-sample sensitivity variations. Typical data obtained using four types of TLDs (LiF:Mg,Ti, LiF:Mg,Cu,P, CaF₂:Tm, Al₂O₃:C single crystal) and two types of OSLDs (BeO and Al₂O₃:C film) are presented along with the estimated uncertainties achieved. The results demonstrate that the material-specific optimized procedure enables a precision (standard deviation of the data) better than 3 % in the 0.2 Gy-2 Gy dose range with all the materials, except for the TL signal of Al₂O₃:C single crystal. The highest precision (¡ 1 %) is achieved using the OSL from Al₂O₃:C film over a wide dose range (∼0.2 Gy to 10 Gy).
