In the Mediterranean region in Croatia following pine species grow in natural stands and plantations: Pinus halepensis Mill., P. pinea L., P. pinaster Ait., P. nigra Arn. and P. brutia Ten. Ecological protection role of sites on which they grow is primary and commercial reasons are on second place. Because of that their health condition is of an great importance. Diseases and pests play an important role in these ecosystems. Last decades some insect pests and pathogenic fungi have caused damages to pine trees.
