The effect of earthworm compost on damping-off of spruce (Picea abies) seedlings was determined. Soil from a forest nursery with damping-off (Pythium sp. and Fusarium sp.) was amended with either 3.8 or 10% (v/v)  earthworm compost (tomato plants). Spruce seeds were sown into flower pots and kept in growth chambers  where germinant emergence rate and damping-off were determined. Emergence rate was reduced at both  compost concentrations. The low dose of earthworm compost had no suppressive effect on damping-off, whereas the high dose increased damping-off, probably as the result of higher nitrogen levels. Enrichment of vermicompost with the antagonist fungi Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. had no effect on damping-off of  spruce.
