A set of 92 Chestnut trees was analysed with RAPD molecular markers for 10 different primers. This material  belong to 29 varieties; for some varieties only one or a few individuals were available. For all individual trees we detected different RAPD patterns, indicating that all individuals can be distinguished from each other with this  molecular approach. Some result were compared with those obtained by mean of isoenzyme markers (see part  II). The comparison among the two method show that individuals which have the ame isoenzyme multilocus  genotype have different RAPD patterns.
