This presentation gives a short overview on the planned EU-project Web4Groups (w4g) which starts in the fall of 1995, and on its current status. In March 1995, a proposal was submitted to the EU Telematics Applications Programme in the Sector "Telematics for Research". The European Forest Institute (EFI) and the Swiss Federal  Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) are two of the ten partners which come from eight European countries. EFI's and WSL's role in the planned project is mainly to contribute user requirements, to evaluate the different modules of the electronic conference system to be developed (Web4Groups), and to participate in demonstration activities to a forest-related user community. Sharing of documents, exchanging multimedia files, commenting web pages and pluri- lingual discussion groups are some major aspects of the WWW-integrated application.
