Element concentrations in the fine roots of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) were altered when various treatments were applied to a forest soil. After the addition of wood ash or of an optimal liquid fertiliser, K, Mg, and P concentrations in fine roots were enhanced, whereas elevated Ca concentrations were detected only after the ash and elevated N concentrations only after the liquid fertiliser application. An increase of the soil pH due to the addition of wood ash led to decreased concentrations of Fe, Mn, and Al in the fine roots. The concentrations of the heavy metal Zn were not affected by the treatments.
