In the present work, the results of full-scale tests conducted in Veltheim (Switzerland) are presented and analysed. Simple monitoring consisting of laser distance sensors located along the flow path which recorded the flow depths and surface velocities were computed using a cross-correlation method. Velocity data and flow depth data at two locations allow for a complete description of the flow in the frame of the depth-averaged equation (mass, momentum). In this context the evolution of the contributions to the equation of motion from the front to the tail of the flow give valuable insight to the dynamics of hillslope debris flows.
