Wild boar (Sus scrofa) are susceptible to a range of diseases that can be transmitted to domestic pigs. African Swine Fever (ASF) has become of great concern to swine producers and government disease control agencies because of its severe consequences to animal health and the pig industry. Having witnessed recent outbreaks of ASF in free-ranging wild boar in Belgium, Germany, and Italy, offices for disease control are on alert in Switzerland as well. To help these offices set their scope of action, it is essential to assess the potential risk of disease introduction and of transmission-related events in wildlife and livestock populations.
