The effects of feeding damage by the European red mite, Panonychus ulmi KOCH (Acari: Tetranychidae) on yield, fruit quality and plant growth of different grapevine cultivars (Pinot noir, Miiller-Thurgau and Gewürztraminer) were investigated. Total yield and number of berries per cluster were not affected by all P.ulmi infestation levels investigated. In two plots the berry weight was slightly increased with increasing mite-load. The incidence of Botrytis cinerea was independent of mite density. Likewise, must soluble solids, total acidity and pH were not affected by mite feeding. The maximal mite-load observed in the investigated grapevine plots was 16.000.000 mite-days per plant, which corresponds to 36.000 mite-days per leaf (maximum 680 mites per leaf).
