A recent textbook to conservation genetics illustrated the use of population genetic methods in species conservation with an example from royal families (Frankham et al. 2004: 174). This gives rise to the challenging question of whether royal families are of conservation concern. In the following, I discuss the case of a highly endangered taxon, namely royal families, whose fate has hitherto been neglected.
